MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

Mixed Martial Arts can be traced back to the ancient Olympics (referred to as Pankration) but experienced an explosion of publicty since the 1990’s with the rise of the UFC.

It is a full contact combat sport that uses a combination of various martial arts with an opponent who may or may not practise the same techniques. It utilises striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground. Strikers and grapplers are successful at MMA although it is rare for a fighter who is not schooled in both forms to succeed well at high competition level.

It is important for those taking part to have a decent cardiovascular conditioning and able to participate in speed drills, strength and conditioning and flexibility warm ups.

MMA is practised at 313 in a controlled and disciplined manner. We encourage our students in Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Kickboxing, Wrestling and Grappling to all participate as it is extremely beneficial to be able to understand how to utilise ones primary martial art in a mixed fight situation.
